For the third consecutive year, the Regional Laboratory of Archaeology had the pleasure to coach during four months of workshops archeology. From 03 February to 02 June, 10 children aged 8 to 12 have benefited from the guidance of an archaeologist of the LRA for 14 sessions including 3 trips of archeological sites and an exhibition-tasting.
The workshops were held Wednesday from 14h to 16h at school Forcioli Conti proposal on service culture of the city of Ajaccio and with the permission of the Director the school.
The age of children was modified compared to previous years. After dealing in 2008 6 / 12 years and in 2009 the 6 / 11 years, we have decided to reduce the gap between children and raise the age to 8 / 12 years. Indeed, too many differences engendered differential understandings and maladaptive behaviors.
The LRA's objective is to educate young citizens of Ajaccio and the region to archeology. More importantly, archaeologists LRA s'attellent to know the history of Corsica through its rich archaeological heritage. To achieve this goal, we encourage reflection and questioning through different eyes focused on our environmental heritage.
The sessions were punctuated by a chronological and thematic. This will address the need to make clear the evolution of the lifestyle of past societies. Thus, prehistory was addressed by the study of houses, megalithic monuments and vases. The age of metals has been initiated a workshop on metallurgy and fire. Antiquity has taken its place with the presentation of the archaeological site of Saint John "San Ghjiovani" (Alban) who became the reference site in the region of Ajaccio.
All sessions were preceded by a more technical workshop which focused on archaeological excavations and methods. Inescapable, since very exciting for youngsters, this introduction has helped to realize the expectations of children.
Three came out adorned these workshops. Beautiful opportunities that have observed the environment of archaeological sites and relics of various kinds.
The project ended with an exhibition at school Forcioli Conti June 2 The parents moved to listen to feedback from their children. Pictures taken during the sessions were projected to be aware of the work. A snack closed the afternoon.
