symposium Ajaccio

Ajaccio The territory has for some years a significant increase in archaeological operations authorized by the Regional Archaeology Service (DRAC Corsica). Surveys, inventories, surveys, diagnostics and preventive excavations have been carried out on common Afa Ajaccio, Alata, Appietto, Bastelicaccia, Coti-Chiavari-Prugna Grosseto, Pietrosella, Sarrola-Carcopino and Villanova. The results of this work deserve to be presented today to institutional partners supporting and authorizing the archaeological operations in the scientific community and the general public. Twenty university stakeholders, scientists and professionals have returned during this conference a varied picture of archaeological, historical and architectural land surrounding the Gulf of Ajaccio. We have included six millennia of occupation from prehistoric times to modern times in a territory rich in nine districts.
The symposium was held from November 12 to 14 by presenting lectures in days , films, documentaries and two evening shows: children's work and posters. November 14 was devoted to visiting heritage sites in the towns of Alata, Ajaccio and Villanova.

The LRA was established in 2004 under the leadership of Daniel Istria (charge Research at the CNRS) and was supported from its inception by the Territorial Community of Corsica to be a key link between scientists and the general public. Archaeologists from the LRA's main tasks conducting prospecting operations inventories diachronic-hiking in order to search for new archaeological sites and monuments. These archaeological operations can expand and update the national archaeological map and enrich the knowledge of the island's heritage. These features enable to trace and understand the process of occupation of these towns.
illustration was one of their missions:
• Valuation of discoveries from the field work in the tourism and economic dynamics,
• public awareness,
• Extension of the results and thanks to a tour of major archaeological sites,
• the establishment of conferences in hotels,
• educational workshops in schools or outside of school (kindergarten to high school) ,
• writing scientific publications,
• participation in national events such as the annual Festival of Science and Heritage Days.

This conference was an opportunity to present the work of the LRA for the past five years. This work was supplemented by studies conducted by researchers who worked on the microwave region. Thus it was possible to get an idea of all assets archaeological, historical and architectural planning Ajaccio on a period of time ranging from prehistoric to modern times .

The symposium began with opening statements from the deputy mayor of the Ajaccio, Simon Renucci, and the regional curator of archeology, Joseph Cesari.

The Chair of the LRA, Miss Elizabeth Pereira, professor at the IUT de Corse, after introducing the Regional Laboratory of Archaeology, revealed the progress of the conference and to thank all partners.

The chairpersons, Mr Vincent Maliet (Conservative Heritage to CTC), Mr. Philippe Colombani (medievalist) and Mr. Sebastien Ottavi (Associate Professor of History) were thanked warmly.

Prehistory has been honored by the papers and posters on the town of Alata (H. Paolini-Saez), mode of life I millennium (F. de Lanfranchi and J. Alessandri), burial of San Simeone (L. Doazan and M.-A. Gardella) and the sites of the Bronze Age and Iron Age around the Gulf of Ajaccio (K. Peach).

Antiquity was enlightened by the presentation of sites in the lower valley of the Gravona (L. Casanova), the ancient shipwrecks in the Gulf of Ajaccio (H. Alfonsi) and a new look at the topography of ancient and medieval Ajaccio (D. Istria).

The Middle Ages has been a general presentation on the whole territory (A. Venturini and P. Colombani), supplemented by a description of the hamlet premodern of Montichji (A. Huser), the presentation of the ceramics of the same hamlet (E. Tomas) and the tower house of Appietto (P Committee).

The modern era began with the presentation of a Genoese colony in Coti (H. Paolini-Saez), followed by the evolution of the citadel of Ajaccio from 1492 to 1570 (A.-M. Graziani) and architecture and urbanism in the nineteenth century in Ajaccio (JF Mata).

The contemporary era has been illustrated by the presentation of the Punta Castle (Z.-Darnault Orsoni), the channel Gravona (N. Pinzuti) and a testimony of the second World War (F. Allegrini-Simonetti).

Longitudinal studies were also presented: the human occupation of the territory Ajaccio (P Committee) and the exploration of joint-stock Pietrosella (H. Paolini-Saez).

The exhibit "Archaeology and Heritage: eyes of children" presented work done to children during school hours or outside school hours .

The class of kindergarten Martine Lebaud (Loretto School in Ajaccio) has started to reproduce a Neolithic village of 6 th millennium. Construction methods and materials are identical to those of our earliest ancestors.
class graduate of Jean-François Olivesi (school-Petreto Bichisano) reconstituted the torre Balestra, a threshing floor (the Aghja) and old cultivation terraces.

Among the many works of workshops on Wednesday afternoon, we have exhibited paintings representing the Paleolithic rock art.

Visiting sites Sunday, November 14, 2010

The symposium was closed by November 14th visit several heritage sites assembled in a circuit. Nearly a forty people gathered at the junction leading to the castle of Punta. After carpooling, we headed towards the castle of Punta located on the town of Alata. The tour began with an explanation of the origin of this iconic building family Pozzo di Borgo. We crossed the "little Africa", that is to say, the upper gardens of the castle, to circumvent punta Pozzo di Borgo to the south. We observed threshing floor in the late nineteenth century or early twentieth century, backed by archaeological structures enigmatic. The ascent to the punta di Lisa (common Villanova) started, to discover the mega-structures built of large stones of granite, evidence of accommodation of fortifications. A menhir, slightly away from the path, is an eloquent testimony of this past due during the second millennium protohistoric about. Arrived off the shelf punta di Lisa, a well-deserved picnic was enjoyed under a bright sun. We then close the ruins of castellu di in Moneta, medieval fortress of the XIV century. Some sherds and rock-shelters built were used to trace the lives of these men of the past. One of the many fountains erected under Napoleon was observed to return. The visit ended at 17h with walkers and seekers of new excited heritage trails in the territory Ajaccio.

Lesson Aleria

Ms. Colombani and Mufraggi, professors at the College of Letters Baléone, wanted to establish an educational project around the ancient site of Aleria. The interest is both the site architecture that the material discovered during archaeological excavations.

In this scientific framework, that collaboration with archaeologists from the Regional Laboratory of Archaeology was established.
The goal is to cross the teaching approaches. On the one hand, the program of the school year (French and Latin) and the other a more didactic approach (intervention LRA).
45 students 3rd to have been aware of this approach in the context of hours of teaching Latin. In this way, college students have discovered a piece of their history through an innovative educational approach. Teachers are fully mobilized for the design and monitoring of the project. An archaeologist LRA Helena Paolini-Saez, oversaw this educational project involving the theoretical framework, crafts and visiting the site Aleria through a "treasure hunt". These three complementary approach to integrate as easily as possible vocabulary and chronology.

Archaeology Workshop Wednesday

For the third consecutive year, the Regional Laboratory of Archaeology had the pleasure to coach during four months of workshops archeology. From 03 February to 02 June, 10 children aged 8 to 12 have benefited from the guidance of an archaeologist of the LRA for 14 sessions including 3 trips of archeological sites and an exhibition-tasting.

The workshops were held Wednesday from 14h to 16h at school Forcioli Conti proposal on service culture of the city of Ajaccio and with the permission of the Director the school.
The age of children was modified compared to previous years. After dealing in 2008 6 / 12 years and in 2009 the 6 / 11 years, we have decided to reduce the gap between children and raise the age to 8 / 12 years. Indeed, too many differences engendered differential understandings and maladaptive behaviors.
The LRA's objective is to educate young citizens of Ajaccio and the region to archeology. More importantly, archaeologists LRA s'attellent to know the history of Corsica through its rich archaeological heritage. To achieve this goal, we encourage reflection and questioning through different eyes focused on our environmental heritage.
The sessions were punctuated by a chronological and thematic. This will address the need to make clear the evolution of the lifestyle of past societies. Thus, prehistory was addressed by the study of houses, megalithic monuments and vases. The age of metals has been initiated a workshop on metallurgy and fire. Antiquity has taken its place with the presentation of the archaeological site of Saint John "San Ghjiovani" (Alban) who became the reference site in the region of Ajaccio.

All sessions were preceded by a more technical workshop which focused on archaeological excavations and methods. Inescapable, since very exciting for youngsters, this introduction has helped to realize the expectations of children.

Three came out adorned these workshops. Beautiful opportunities that have observed the environment of archaeological sites and relics of various kinds.

The project ended with an exhibition at school Forcioli Conti June 2 The parents moved to listen to feedback from their children. Pictures taken during the sessions were projected to be aware of the work. A snack closed the afternoon.
